Last of the E-Learning Credits

If you’re working in a state school in England then you should be familiar with e-Learning Credits. ELCs are ring-fenced funds for schools to purchase curriculum software. The scheme has been running for five years now but ends in August 2008.

This means it’s your last chance to get Sunflower for Science with E-Learning Credits. If your school hasn’t spent its eLCs by August the money goes back to the Government. And if you don’t ask your school for the money then perhaps other, dare we say, less-important-than-science-departments may spend the money instead.

July’s Free programme

This month’s free access programme is Earth in Space. This programme gives you:

• 3D models of the planets, the solar system and the Earth, Moon and Sun
• Animations to explain about eclipses, seasons, tides and the lives of stars
• Data on the planets to analyse
• A sense of the incredible scales in space

Moodle, Welsh and Cardiff

All of us at Sunflower are very proud to be working with Cardiff Local Authority to bring Sunflower for Science to all Cardiff’s teachers and students. Sunflower for Science is available through Moodle in both English and Welsh.

Working with Cardiff LA we’ll be running a programme of training for science teachers. The first bit of training was last month when we spent a very enjoyable afternoon with Cardiff’s Heads of Department exploring how to access Sunflower through Moodle.

Course Mapper Available Online

If you add up all the programmes, worksheets, activities, examples and sample lessons in Sunflower for Science you’ll have over 500 resources for teaching and learning science. It’s great to have so much content, but how does it fit in with what you’re teaching?

The answer is our Course Mapper programme and as an experiment we’re making it available FREE online.

Firstly you choose your course. Then on the left you’ll see the content of your course. On the right you can see where any of the 500+ resources in Sunflower fit in. Roll over to see a screen grab of the resource. Of course if you want to run the full, rich, interactive resource you’ll need to buy it!
